Full Circle
The Class of 2024 embarked on a transformative retreat in the picturesque Shoalhaven, a stepping stone into their final year of school.
A testament to the power of preparation, embracing new experiences, and supporting one another, Full Circle brought together the elements of an outdoor education camp, a study skills intensive, and a health and wellbeing retreat. Most of all, it gave the students an opportunity to regroup, reconnect, and prepare for the challenges of the HSC.
"Shoalhaven provided an incredibly open and interactive environment that allowed us to connect as a year group," said Gemma. Eleanor agreed, saying the tranquillity of the countryside provided a much-needed break from their experiences in North Sydney and a chance to engage in meaningful reflection.
Full Circle incorporated scientifically backed strategies to help the students thrive in the coming year. Jemma highlighted the academic workshop as particularly insightful, saying, "Some of the more memorable methods taught were box breathing and gratitude journalling, which will help to bring peace and optimism to our journey ahead."
A variety of traditional camp activities, from abseiling to canoeing, were included in the schedule, each designed to challenge the students and foster a sense of camaraderie. "Abseiling was a fun but challenging activity," said Litia. "It was also rewarding as we overlooked a beautiful view, which allowed us to pause and appreciate the scenery while waiting for our turn."
The students also engaged in a weaving workshop, a sacred skill of the Indigenous women of the area. According to Sophie, it was extremely relaxing once you picked up the skill. "I found it a wonderful way to spend time with my friends," she said.
A highlight of the experience was a specialist art workshop held in Bundanon, one of the country's most picturesque locations for artistic creation. "Even though I do not take Visual Arts as a subject, the workshop was such a fun experience where everyone could participate and step out of their comfort zones," said Jemima.
Each night concluded with activities conceived to foster a sense of unity, from trivia to movie nights. "I really loved the evening activities because it allowed me to connect with my year group," shared Nina. Pia agreed, adding, "It was nice seeing our year group bond even more."
